Why we reformulated My Swim Cream – a new era of water protection

For the past year, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, refining and improving My Swim Cream to meet the evolving needs of professionals working in aquatic environments. Our goal has always been to provide top-tier, natural skin protection for people who spend long hours in the water. But as we spoke with employers and swim schools, we realised there was a crucial gap we needed to address: a hygienic and cost-effective way to dispense our product.

Listening to employers: The call for a pump bottle

The original version of My Swim Cream was dispensed in jars, which worked well for individual use but posed challenges for workplaces. Employers were clear – they needed a more hygienic way to provide the cream to their staff. The thickness of the formula meant it couldn’t be used in a pump, so we knew reformulation was essential. At the same time, some swim schools were opting for cheaper petroleum-based products, which raised concerns for us.

We’ve always been committed to natural, health-focused ingredients. Petroleum-based products might come at a lower price, but they don’t align with our vision of supporting health and wellbeing. Why put something on your skin that’s bad for your health, especially when the goal is to protect it from water and chemical exposure? This is a core aspect of our value: we offer a natural product that shields skin from harm without adding to health or environmental problems.

The development journey: Balancing performance and price

While not all employers were concerned about the price, we understood that cost can be a barrier for some. We set out to see if we could tweak the formula to lower the price point while maintaining its high standards of protection. Our brief to the formulating team was clear: the new version had to offer the same four-hour skin protection that doesn’t wash off in water – a critical feature that sets us apart from competitor products.

The reformulation process took time. We went through several iterations, testing each with our trusted crew of swim teachers. Getting the consistency right was key. Some versions were too oily, others too thick but finally, we landed on a formula that felt luxurious on the skin, provided lasting protection and, crucially, stayed on the skin without washing off into the water. The feedback from our testers was overwhelmingly positive.

Introducing PROFESSIONAL and INTENSIVE

With the reformulation complete, we’re proud to introduce My Swim Cream in two distinct formats. The new PROFESSIONAL formula comes in a pump bottle, making it ideal for workplaces that need a hygienic, easy-to-use solution. It’s designed specifically for aquatic professionals – swim teachers, hydrotherapists, stunt actors, and more. Employers love the convenience, and many swim schools now provide it as part of their workplace health and safety programs. Some schools offer it to staff for free, while others pass on the bulk purchase discount to their teams.

The INTENSIVE formula, which is the original jar version, has been renamed to better align with the new product line. It remains an excellent choice for people with existing skin conditions who need extra protection. Many users apply it both before and after water exposure for deep, long-lasting moisture.

An innovative approach to skin protection

My Swim Cream represents an innovative approach to water protection, much like how we started adopting sun protection decades ago.

Many employers may not fully grasp the immediate and serious effects prolonged water exposure can have on their staff’s skin and health. Just as we now recognise the importance of protecting skin from UV rays, the risks posed by water exposure are very real and shouldn’t be ignored. Incorporating My Swim Cream into workplace health and safety programs is an effective way to safeguard employees who spend long hours in the water.

And we’re only just beginning. More and more employers are considering making the use of My Swim Cream mandatory before staff enter the water, setting a new standard for aquatic workplace safety. But that’s a story for another day.
